Ok so now i got some cash up for a lense for night hockey.. i have been playing with my camera some and tell ya what... I got alot to learn to begin with!!!!! but ill get there

i was looking on the "Approved" vendor list for the canon 85mm 1.8 lense as seen here from one of my other topics..

However if you're dead-set on trying to capture usable images from the night-time soccer games, the suggestion about the Canon 85mm f1.8 lens would be better than getting the 55-250 for now.

.

so the full name is Canon EF 85mm Lens f/1.8 USM ?????
i found it and they list a USA version and Imported version.. but i see 0 difference!!!!!!
how do i know what im getting as if i went on ebay and looked? trying to avoid issues....

now i found one for a great price... however once again.. looked on resellerratings.com and dont see them listed... also going to check ebay... and want to know how to tell...
thanks
Jeff

There is no physical difference between the lens. Assuming you buy from somewhere reputable (like B&H), the USA version will have a 1-year warranty provided by Canon USA. The imported version will have a 1-year warranty provided by B&H.

B&H gets the "US" version from "Canon USA" (the official US distributor of Canon products), and they get the Import versions from "somewhere else"

Both versions are fine, but usually the cost difference isn't that great and most folks just buy the US version.

As to how to avoid issues, stick with Adorama or B&H and you'll be fine :)

If it's $180, it's a scam. Remember, stick with B&H or Adorama!

I LOVE my 85! I actually don't shoot many sports, but I did shoot one indoor basketball game, and it did pretty well, but I'm not a sports guy.

I mainly use it for shooting people. It does a great job of shooting people, indoors and outdoors. It's a little long indoors (depending on the size of the room) but it's doable.

Why not stick your Sigma zoom at 85mm and go around and shoot stuff to see what it would be like to be "stuck" at 85mm.

Amazon is another good place to keep an eye on. Their prices are usually right with b&h and Adorama, sometimes better, even, and I have never had a single issue with something I've bought from them.

oh yeah... also when i have cash it is best to spend it on what im thinking NOW as it will get spent on something else..

this whole camera thing was supposed to be a nv4500 (5 speed with granny gear) or nv5600 (6 speed with granny gear) for my mud truck....
but decided to spend the cash on family memories.... vs my need of overdrive down the highway... 65mph=4000 rpms!!!
