I'm in the market for a 7D body and want to know if there are any rebates or expected price drop with new cameras coming out. Also, what a great price for just the body and should I wait for the 7Dsv. I'm looking for a camera for sports with the ability to shoot HD clips and I think the 7D works well. Now where can I locate one for a great price?bw!

the 7dsv is the same as the 7d except it offers a special firmware for transferring and logging pictures wirelessly. Unless you shoot for the NFL and need to categorize all your shots, its the same camera. im not sure about a price drop though.

The wireless feature is nice to know and could come in handy for me down the line. I guess the difference in price between the 7D and 7Dsv will determine my direction.bw!

lol
The info is book worthy to newbies and that makes it special. I'll look into the wireless feature of the 7Dsv and go from there, too.

7DSV is designed for studios... where it's useful to lock the settings so the minimum wage employee pressing the shutter button when the kiddies grin can't make unwanted changes, and where image tracking with barcodes are useful...

If wireless file transfer is really of interest to you, all you need is the appropriate WFT (5A?) added to a standard 7D. It's about an $800 accessory.

7D too pricey? Aside from video and wireless flash, the 50D you already have can do 90-95% of what 7D can do, and cost quite a few dollars less. And, there's a possibility we'll see a 60D soon, which will no doubt have video capability stuffed into it. For a lot of people, a 50D (or still mythical 60D) would be a much better choice, anyway. 7D comes with a pretty steep learning curve and you'll be paying for quite a few bells and whistles I'd be you'll try once while reading the manual and never use again. As a 1D series user, OP will probably have less trouble ramping up with 7D, than would someone coming from any of the xxxD or xxD models.

i also see that you have a 70-200 IS in your gear list. is that the f4 IS or the 2.8 IS. If it is the f4 IS look into acquiring a 70-200 2.8 IS, or IS II if you are focusing on sports. if you already have a 2.8 IS and you are looking to shoot sports look at the 300 2.8 non IS as that (next to the 300 2.8 IS) is the ultimate sports lens.

Camera Nerd,

Thanks for the insight to the 300mm f/2.8 lens. I'll keep this in mind in the months to come.

actually if you have a broken point and shoot or dslr you can buy a refurbished 7d for 1100 from canon directly and it comes with a 90 day warranty. But first focus on a 300 2.8 if your main goal is sports as you can have the 300 2.8 with the tc on the 1ds mark II during the day giving you 420 f4, and the 70-200 on the 50d. and for night games i would put the 300 2.8 on the 50d as the crop factor will bring you to 480 @2.8 field of view, and keep the 70-200 on the 1ds mark II for close up shots.
