I was wondering if anybody could tell me if it's normal to have the image uploaded onto my computer be completely different for lighting than what it looked like in my camera...
I have a 50d, and use SanDisk cards. I get my lighting just right in my shot, take it, and the lighting looks great. Get it back to upload into Aperture 3, and once it "sets" (the thumbnail will come up for a split second as the fabulous light I shot it in) the image is a ton more shadowed and darkened. I have a brand new Mac and checked the calibration on a website. It all looked fine........ Thanks for any thoughts!

can't speak for aperture, but in lightroom3 the thumbnails are darkened and vignetted when they are unchecked. when you hover over then with the mousepointer and/or select them (tick the checkbox) they look normal, as they when opened/developed/etc.

By lighting, do you mean exposure? If so, how are you judging this? By the preview on the LCD? That's asking for trouble. The LCD is useful only for accessing menus, checking composition, and focusing with LiveView. Judge exposure by the image histogram.

Of course, you may have quite a different issue.

Yes, my exposure is completely off, and yes, by the preview. Thank you I will remember that!

Is that a 17-55 IS or an 18-55 IS?
What's the message?

Images taken on my 50D look much better on the LCD screen than when seen on my PC. I guess you are shooting raw and when seen in your editing software they are converted by the systems raw converter and their interpretation on how the colours etc should be. Images seen in DPP (raw) look far closer to what I see on my LCD screen. Try viewing them in DPP.

It's a 17-55 is and the message says the communications between the camera and the lens is faulty

always check the histogram. The camera screen is a great tool for checking some things, but for exposure the histogram is the king!
