I work for the Division of Youth Services, and one of the things that we do is take the youth on outings. This consists of canoeing, hiking, team building courses etc. I was staff at an outing this week at the Current River teaching the youth proper canoeing techniques.

On the first day of our trip, the lead canoe told everyone to be really quiet. When my canoe made it around the bend we could see a group of wild horses. I had been told about the horses before, but hadn't really expected to see them since a sighting is rare. I had brought my cameras and gear along with me, so I was able to get a few shots. It was neat getting to see something so rare.

great photo but the middle horse in the last pic looks dreadfully thin. It's either very sick or starving, or both.
are they mustangs? They look like they have Andalusian blood in them. Wouldn't mind a few in my paddock after a good worming and feed.

I'm not really sure on the breed. Since they are not owned by anyone they basically fend for themselves, so that might be why the horse is so thin.

I had a waterproof setup tied into the canoe that I could use, but it was still a risk. My gear is covered under my homeowners policy. The way I see it, I'd rather risk messing up some gear every once in a while and get some cool shots I couldn't get at home. I bought my camera gear to use it and not to go on trips like this and think, "Man, I wish I had my camera with me."

#1 = A+++++ I love it . You get the feeling that horse is a "wild " horse. I would print that and hang it .

Love the mare and foal shot, what a neat opportunity!
The thin horse is more than likely much older--the herd looks to be in really good weight otherwise. I love that they are standing in the water.

Great shots!! I didnt know they were down there. I have canoe on the Current /Jacks Fork. Its some beautiful country for sure. I would have been reluctant to carry my gear on Current river tho, it can be most challenging and fast at times. I remember a spot on the river we were just floating flat water with high cliffs on one side..........all sudden kids quietly did canonballs from about 50-70 feet up above. Scared the crap out of us lol. We laughed after , serious fun on Current River on the July 4th weekends:)

Thanks for sharing
