This is amazingly helpful. Thanks for posting.

BTW, it is a similar process to opening my iMac to put in a larger hard drive.

I installed that Giottos Sp8301L yesterday on my 5D2, works well and very clear. And it was around $30 bucks, almost same price as a new LCD cover. of course you don't have the Canon wording with the Giottos 12 layer glass protector on it.

As you're in Europe you might have luck calling the UK. I asked about the adhesive for a 500D and that was only £2 incl. postage. It obviously will be a little dearer to include the window.

Try H Lehman +44 1 782 413611, they're cheaper than Camera Repair Service +44 1 206 843322. These are licensed Canon parts stockists and repairers given to me by Canon UK.

Good luck

Thanks for the tip. I have a 70-200 2.8 II LIS that's got a broken AF window. I can't be with out this lens for a repair....so i'd rather repair this myself

I would like to know as well. I read somewhere that the cover was now part of the LCD (bonded to it), but I'm not sure.

Canon's Clear View II LCDs have no gap between the protective glass cover and the LCD unit, eliminating air-glass interface, reducing refraction and reflection. The glass LCD cover has an anti-reflective coating.

It still doesn't answer my question if it is removable. I have no idea what "optical elastic material" is, but it sounds pretty permanent.
