Lump me in with the "I'm so glad I got a 50D" crowd :)

They are moving potential customers who expected to upgrade from the 50D to the 7D now - which has a higher price tag (and possibly a better margin?).

I don't like where the xxD series is heading now. :(
But ... moving me as a customer from xxD series to xD series will probably work with this move. :-P

It was always going to be difficult for Canon to create the right specification so as not to impinge on 7D sales. Not an earth shattering release and I'm still glad I stretched my upgrade to the 7D rather than the 50D or waited for this. Perhaps the only possible attraction is the flip out screen. With SD cards they are obviously targeting Rebel users. Not that I'd mind SD cards in my 7D why are they cheaper that's what I want to know.

So where does the XXD line go from here? Is it just going to be a rebel line with a wheel? I'm pretty disappointed by this news. I love my 40D. I love my 5D2. I can't see anything appealing about the 60D except maybe for the articulating screen -- everything else is a downgrade!

because they're smaller and so use less plastic ;)

I think the 60D becomes the P&S to SLR "bridge" and the traditonal XXD line (as we now know it) goes away.

Maybe this paves the way for the T2i to become the mystical 3D which would then serve as the true "First SLR" enroute to a 7D or a 5DMkII?

Just Spitballin'...

I was worried the value of the 7D would diminish

It is....every single day.

I was counting on the 60D being a logical second body behind my 7D.

Considering I can get a factory refurb 7D for $300 more than the 60D, I'll probably just find myself a used 50D or 40D for a second body for sports.

the slowed down frame rate from the 50D was the nail in the coffin for me.

Craig the articulating screen may be a handy feature. I'm not really sure.

They always look abit cheesy to me when I've seen them on other makes.

Ever have your nipples cooked to medium well while trying to get a "worms eye view" of an aircraft parked on an asphalt ramp in Arizona in June, July or August?

Articulating screen? Why the hell not...?

It might be handy for those really low macro shots I sometimes take. But, then again I've managed to take them without a swivel screen. I won't be getting the 60D. I've just ordered a 50D to replace the 40D as my 5D2 backup camera. If the XXD line continues along the lines of the 60D then I am done with it
