Articulated LCD =

  • Visions of a P&S
  • extra complexity
  • more bulk

No thanks.

But I will say I LOVE Sony's implementation with the NEX series. Flips up and down but not "out". It's also super thin and solid... I'm hoping the canon version feels as solid, but I doubt it considering the G series doesn't.

DPR complained about how the flipping down LCD doesnt work with tripods in one of their reviews (something gets in the way of the LCD coming down)...don't remember which camera that was for, though.

40D's 50D's dropping in value as people want the 60D. Bring it on.

With the "dumb down" of the 60D, don't count on the 50D prices dropping.

You can get a brand new "king of the xxD series" right now for under $1K. The 50D is the high point for the xxD line.

It will. QUICKLY. Don't dream. Just look at all the historical whiners and what happened to the prices.

wow, people are so happy with their 50D suddenly. makes me really wanna dig up all the 50D trashing threads since late 08.

Agreed. When the 50D came out it was a totally lame non-upgrade with noisier pictures. And now the 40D is selling for $550 used all day long.

Yes and lets all watch the 7ds used price tank along with it. Canon does it again. Same stunt when they announced the 5DII and destroyed the market on the 1DsIII.

60D=7D- extra AF points and 2.4FPS. Now we know why the retail on the 7D has been dropping.

7D price has been dropping because it's been out a year. It debuted at $1700 and is now about $1535. That's not exactly tanking, is it.

And 60D = 7D - extra AF points - 2.7FPS - AF configurability - micro AF adjustment - dedicated AF processor - dual digic - metal body - 100% viewfinder - weather sealing - flash sync port - some other stuff that I"m missing probably. So not really close to a 7D at all, but at least it's almost priced accordingly--would've liked to see a camera with this spec eke in just a smidge under $1000 (let's say $999), but it's within the right range I think. 60D pricing will not affect 7D pricing.

i just noticed by looking closely at the images for the grip that it looks like it will take a cartridge for the batteries.
much like the grips for the rebel. or even the grip for the nikon d300.

If 60d has the same digic-4 chip as 50d and 7d, it could be that some features were just simply disabled by Canon for marketing reasons. Canon has done this before. Remember the first Digital Rebel and Vasya's hack? So maybe someone will come up soon and bring back some "missing" features.

There is still no hack for the 40D... I wouldn't hold my breath

Why did they put a bulb mode on the mode dial? No other xxD did this did it? They could have made that space for an extra custom function.

The 60D grip looks somewhat more ergonomic compared to the 7D BG-E7.

It's designed like the new rebel grips (eg. BG-E8 grip), battery tray from the side, which allows it to match the smaller body better.

40d has a different processor (digic-3). and it wasn't a downgrade from the previous model.(it wasn't much of an upgrade either...)
