Dead on. Canon doesn't want 50D owners to upgrade to the 60D, they want them to upgrade to the 7D. The 60D is the upgrade for Rebel owners.
thats the way i see it. also i see the original 40d and 50d's being worth more in value. I didnt see this coming, but it make sense to me now. XXD line up,as they have it, competes to napkins set up. Its really a D90 with canons lens line up behind it-------good for canon
as someone pointed out earlier, its a step up for the rebel line up and the 7d will be the new standard for the what was the old xxd line up---makes sense
old 50d and 40d owners just got another reason to keep thier bodies if they dont want to jump to a 7D or go full frame. And 7d owners just got another reason to hang on to the older 40and 50d bodes as 2nd cameras. This is actually a really smart way for a photographer to set him self up with out breaking the bank. The lens line up for the xxD line is great,,17-55,15-85,10-22,,60 macro,,gives anyone enough fire power to do anything they want to do. With some reach like a 70-200 you are very set in my opinion, theres nothing you cant do and,, with the 7d,, you have clean iso at 3200 which was never the case in the XXD line-------great set up and smart move for canon. really simplifys the line up now.
Now guys like me, that have both full frame and the 1.6 in the line up have all the bases covered. But that being said, I can see more people walking into a wedding arena with XXD set ups and really being able to deliver the goods the way canon has the line up going. 7d and a old 40d or 50d with the right lens lets you do anything most of us can deliver with the full frame set ups. I still prefer full frame for what i do, but a 7d/40d/50d, is right there and does the job.
new 60d is a consumer set up all the way. 7D and 5dMKII is the prosumer and first step professional set up,,1 series is the pro camera line up. I think this hurts the 1 series a little because 7d and 5dmkII are outstanding cameras and really deliver the goods. My guess is that canon with make big advancements for the 1 series to really seperate it from the rest of the line up.
i see the changes as a good thing and makes the body decisions easier to make for professionals and consumers
