For those of you who dislike the camera, what would you have put into the 60d had you been in charge?
exactly...
IMHO they should have left the FPS alone (if the 7D can go 8, keeping the 60D where the 50D was wouldn't be hard, it'd just cost them more on memory), kept MA in it, and left the sync port on the side. The metal -vs- plastic body is another issue, but it's not 100% negative. For those that think it's too small, add the grip like everyone around here loves to do anyway (not me). Light is good, provided it doesn't break. Not sure how it'll FEEL (which IS important to me) but I doubt it'll be too bad. But those few things are the issues that make it a "step down" from the 50D for some. The joystick is another hanging point, but to get the screen that pretty much had to happen. The new wheel/joypad doesn't seem bad, but it IS different (will take some adjusting). SD cards are another issue for some. Rebuying isn't a great complaint IMHO because new cameras (to you) almost always come with a MP increase so you (at least I do) buy new cards with new cameras. Sure your old cards can't be spares anymore, but SDs are cheap enough you could go buy 2 16gb SLOW cards for cheap, then one fast better card for normal use. My issue with SD is I've personally broken 4 of them over the last 7 years where I've NEVER had an issue with CFs. They're just not quite as robust.
Getting rid of the banding at high ISOs (assuming they did) is a MAJOR upgrade though. That alone makes this a significant upgrade IMHO.
They needed to position this between the T2i and 7D though. So they couldn't make it TOO similar to the 7D and they had to give people SOMETHING for their money over the T2i.
So yeah:
- FPS
- sync port
- MA
- plastic body
had those stayed then the only real complaint would be the screen which is as big of a plus to some as it is a minus to others. Personally, I DON'T need/want a flip out screen, but it would be VERY nice to be able to flip it around "closed" at times so you can't see it or scratch it.
