The 7D is the "new xxD" series...no doubt! Quite a bit pricier than 40D/50D were, isn't it ? Ex-Canon shooter. Now Sony Nex.

Canon is obviously going after Nikon and so they branched the 50D into two models - the 7D, to compete with D300, and this 60D, to compete with the D90. So don't get to crazy with the comparisons to the 50D. And honestly, it makes sense. Think of what a 50D with upgraded AF, HD video and 18MP would be - a 7D, right? They needed something between the 550D and 7D, so they needed to reposition the xxD line a bit. Of course while the 50D still exists for sale, this makes the choices even more confusing! ![]() Until Canon is able to match Nikon's AF accuracy and metering accuracy (especially in high contrast situations) this would just drive more people to D90. IMHO. Especially once D90 gets replaced and price drops. Ex-Canon shooter. Now Sony Nex.

Take a 7D, replace the label with one that says '60D' and drop the price by £400. Even if they did that there would be some people whinging about it not being FF. I just don't agree with everyone who keeps repeating this. From my standpoint, I would have liked swivel LCD + effective AF when shooting video, and then whatever necessary compromises to bring the camera in at an appropriate price point between T2i and 7D. Basically I was hoping for the soccer mom/family oriented camera that lots of folks derisively predicted. But those are my personal wants. From a larger standpoint I would have simply liked to see Canon offer up something new and a bit innovative. All they are doing is offering different bodies with mixes of mostly existing features in an attempt to maximize market share. They seem content to let others innovate and then come in and play catch up a generation later while leveraging their strong brand equity and the fact that many serious enthusiasts aren't willing to walk away from tons of pricey lenses.

I see a pattern here.... [GIFS ARE NOT RENDERED IN QUOTES] Seriously, these people make me think of my great great grandmother who didn't trust refrigerators. People are terrified of change and though the obvious benefits of having an articulating screen are, well, obvious, without even handling the camera everyone butthurt by it seems to know(with psychic intuition?) that the thing will be made of bits of paper held together by paperclips and elmers glue and will be held on so poorly that it will randomly fly off making it an eye hazard. fotoworx wrote in post #10798288 swing-out LCD ....to me they look cheesy. From what I read, it's $1,100 body, $1,400 with one kit lens. If these are accurate numbers, compare to D90 at $1400 with 2 lenses (at Costco) or T2i at $800 body. Or 50D. What's in 60D to beat them ? that is probably not a correct comparison. $1100 (and $1400 with lens) is estimated full retail price for 60D. Typically cameras sell for less, unless the model sells out all the time. 50D, for e.g., has the same "full retail price", and it sells for $960 at Amazon today. I think 60D is priced right, for a camera with that feature set. 70D | Tamron 17-50 VC | Canon 50 f/1.4 | 70-200 f/4L IS | 100 2.8 | 100-400 L | YN560ii

As a T1i user looking to upgrade sometime in the next year, it definitely would have been a strong contender for me if it had weather sealing body + MA. Since it doesn't, a 7d is more of a right choice. However, as I've stated before, the 60d is further segmenting it's market and is further defining their camera lines, which is a smart move in a business standpoint.

So I think, basically, the 60D would not be an upgrade from a 50D... From a Rebel, yes, but 50D owners now need to jump to the 7D/5D/1D for an upgrade... I guess a DSLR with video is inevitable... I guess the HD camcorder goes to eBay... Mike

No offense to anyone in particular but wow us camera people really like to complain :-}. You don't have to rotate the screen if you don't want to. You don't have to use live view, picture styles or ISO 12800 etc. but is it a bad thing to have them? The same way people complain that the DSLR has video, I really just don't get it. Most of these features do little to increase the cost so its like a bonus. Website
