I am new to photography and quite new to these forums. I have read other posts and I have to say that this community gives great feedback. I would like to progressively get better and I would like some feedback on one of my favorite images I had recently taken. I am open and appreciative to all comments. Thanks!

2nd one is way too blue. Not sure what you are using to edit, but in Photoshop, looking at the skin values (in the face) in LAB mode - it's showing +A and -B channels which is Violet. The yellow needs to be upped quite a bit by the looks of the channel values.

I actually like the first one, it does have an orange-y cast to it though, but the warmth is better than in the second.

As for the image - the space above her head is really dead space and the crop at the wrist is something you want to avoid. Overall a nice image, I would probably of angled the camera down a degree or two to get a little more body and little less headroom.

I agree with your opinion cmchavis. I liked the first one as well. I am using LR3 as well as CS4. I went back and desaturated a little from the first image because it was at +6. I dropped it to -13. I will also keep your tip in mind about more body and less headroom. I currently use a T1i and I am realizing now that the view finder doesn't come close to giving the entire picture. Appreciate your critique! Thanks!

I like it. The depth of field is just right so you have a sense of location (you can tell you're in a field) without a distracting level of detail.

I am inclined to agree that the first one is too warm... but only by a little bit. It has a nice sunrise/sunset sort of cast so I wouldn't reduce it by a whole lot.

I think its a great shot and I do kind of like the yellow saturation of the first one. Second one is way too cold

Photography is like a drug and I think I need an intervention.

For being new to photography this is an absolutely great photo! I love the subject matter, the seeds blowing and the blurring action. The DOF is great. I would like to see the crop move down a little. I have a thing against chopping people's joints off. (You are cropping the image right at the wrist joint.) I think it would be better if you had moved down just a touch.

I think the 1st image is fabulous! Great use of soft and warm tones. The warmness adds a fantasy or pleasurable reference (surreal) to the image. The composition is well done. I would clip a little off the left to about where the loose hair strands are. By reducing the space behind her we see more of where her attention is in the frame.

You guys are all great thanks for the very helpful responses. When I first got my T1i, i read allot about photography before hand. I figure it would be a nice hobby. Up until now I find myself reading throughout the day to find way on improving my shot or technique. It was by luck i suppose that I got this shot. Taken with a 55-250mm kit lens.

The photo is great. I love the depth of field and the composition. White balance is subjective...and so is exposure. Go with what you like in that regard. The only thing I would say is that the focus looks a tad soft....but that may just be the limitation of the lens.

Thanks for the comment! It is a little soft because I lowered the clarity a little.
