The mtf charts of the new EF 300mm 2.8 with the new extenders looks promising. The 2x III extender looks better than the 1.4x III.

Hopefully the 1.4x and 2.0x will work seamlessly with the 70-200L2. Definitely looking for more information on this.

If the optical and AF performance of the 2x has been improved... 70-200L MkII versus 100-400L would be an interesting matchup. Already, with the current 2x, IQ is almost on par - if the new one gives better IQ and AF than the 100-400, there really wouldn't be much point to the 100-400.

I'm somewhat surprised they revamped the 300L/400L/500L/600L first, rather than the 100-400, 24-70 and 16-35, given that those zooms are so much more in need of a revamp, and have much more competition from third-party manufacturers in the current market.
