I'm not planning to post any 100% crops here, because of all the "Yadayada" and the like. If anyone is interested I will link to my website where I shall be running a blog of my impressions and showing any images I like but I've got this lens for my use, not to feed the pixel-peepers and "Critics" that seem to roam these sites at the moment.

Its a shame, these people are making me and others like me less inclined to play the game

Oldcanon dont let some of these individuals stop you from sharing on here. I was the first to provide real sample images from this lens on this site. Trust me i had a bunch of trolls come out and play. However, the masses who appreciated all the hard work i went through come out with louder voices. This is a great site and sometimes we have instances were very few can produce an unpleasent situation from what is otherwise a great site.

Here is my thread i started with my samples from september:

Thanks Omar, I spotted your early images and they encouraged me to track down and consider getting this lens.

Re: the question of posting and feeding the Trolls, I have had unpleasant experiences with some of these individuals in the past and as I'm now an aging pensioner prefer to spend what little time I have left on things I enjoy - if I can share them with like-minded people that's fine but I don't have the energy to waste on the others, so I will stick with my way of sharing for the while and see how it goes

I think a good alternative would be EF 70-200mm f/2.8L USM + Canon Extender 1.4x II. The combined price will be almost same as the 70-300L with 20 mm less reach. But the big gain is, it's a much faster lens with f/4 all the way.

Sharp at F/4? Probably not, so lets call it F/5.6. No IS. Bigger. Can't rapidly go from 70mm to 300mm. Will it still focus as fast?

I'm slowly putting a few shots up on my website gallery. Nothing other than doodles really at the moment as the weather is so appalling but they may be of interest. I can get it to AF with 300mm + 1.4 Kenko TX with all focus points in use (otherwise not) here

I agree with these thoughts. These are the main arguments -against- a 70-200 plus a teleconverter. There are other pros of course, but we all know each lens is a compromise in one form or another.

Thanks oldcanon... I have a Kenko 1.4x TC and it is good to know it does AF. It also looks like it is a rather sharp copy.

Well I'd say don't be so soft-skinned and worry what commenters say and sometimes if someone says something about a 100% crop not actually showing this or that or having been done perfectly, well so what, maybe it doesn't show this or that or wasn't done entirely properly, nothing to get upset over, at best you can learn something, nothing wrong with that, and at worst you can just decide to ignore it and be whatever, in any case you are not being personally attacked. If every reasonable criticism was taken as a personal affront we'd still be in the stone age. And if someone doesn't have time or the inclination to waste their time redoing a certain test I don't think anyone holds it against them.

some people don't want to play the pixel peeping game or to feed it. I think we should respect that and not call them "soft skinned".

Sure that is fine, it's one thing to not want to bother spending a ton of time doing careful tests, nothing wrong with taht in the slightest. But the OP said he wouldn't post samples here because he was afraid of being attacked, which is something different.

Afraid and simply not wanting the bitter moment of reading all the 'oh I am so superior' remarks that will inevitably follow here is quite different. I have read so many threads with that kind of behavior, that I agree with oldcanon.

I'll be following his blog and pictures posted.

Rafa.
