Sup guys... I got the e18 problem on my S230. When I turn the camera on, the lense doesn't come out, so I get a black screen and it display's the e18 code on the bottom. Did you guys ever have this problem and had to get your camera fixed/warrantied?

How much do you think Canon will charge me to get the camera fixed?

:cry::cry:

lens is jammed. probably a broken gear in the optical unit. canon will charge a minimum of $170. the optical unit alone is $140 even if you did the repair work yourself.

bummer.

Here is a link to try and repair:

http://www.ixus-world.de …repair_guide/e18_01en.htm (external link)

Give it a minute or two and it will load in English.

Note that this only works if the lens mechanism is jammed because of dirt, etc. with no broken gears. Blowing compressed air into the gap around the lens has worked for some also (or so I've heard).

I've gone thru the process at least 8 times on various Elph cameras only to find broken teeth on the largest diameter barrel of the lens mechanism. That means only replacing the optical unit will work since Canon does not sell individual pieces of the optical unit.

I think the gears broke... because when i tap on teh back of the camera, the lense starts to come out by itself... and then I can easily push it back in.

Im going to try to blow it out with compressed air, if nothing then i'll just sell it AS IS on ebay. :(
