A couple more from my trip yesterday, this little squirrel thought it was hiddden from view and the shot of the crab boat in the bay shows how high up we were. The distant chalk cliffs are the "Old Harry Rocks", iconic for this bit of coastline

Looking very seriously at this lens. I think I remember someone saying something about the zoom and focus rings being "switched" from normal. Does this mean the focus ring is closest to the body? I have a Tamron 70-300 (don't get one) in which this is the case and it drives me nuts.

Totally not my usual thing but took the opportunity to try baby shots while visiting my friend and their 2 month old baby.

it does, but you very quickly get used to it and it isn't a problem (for us users anyway :) )

Cute pictures of the infant Bobobird

I guess parents don't like the "Gritty Realism" of a good drool
(My shots of our Grand-children show them covered in chocolate, mud or whatever else they happen to be playing with at the time I get the shot!)

No the parents love it and I do too, but the better people photographers do not.

Mind you the pics do look a little better with the drool fix.

Can anyone tell me what type of bird this is? Taken a couple of weeks ago at the Caw Caw center outside of Charleston. Should have asked one of the caretakers. My first thought was blue heron, but my wife said "no."

tovarish - suggest you ask in the bird section. I think it is a blue heron.

Thanks. Did and it's a tri colored heron. I like the red eyes and I love this lens.

Just a quick question: I've read somewhere that Canon moved from the old grey/beige L color to a more white finish with this lens. However, I was rather surprised that the lens looks more grey than white in real life. Is that the normal color or are there different versions of this lens?
