Hi All, Bent the credit Card since my last post, my lens arrived yesterday but haven't tried it apart from one shot of the dogs paw in the living room, 1/15 ISO6400 @ 300mm, actually fairly good considering so maybe I'll get out this afternoon to take some better shots if the weather plays nice.
Seeing a comment on colour, mine is definately an off white grey colour.
BoboBird, out of interest on the close up shots you've posted which size extension tube do you use most, I've looked at the Kenko set of 3 tubes but if the 12mm was the best to use I may go for the Canon single item, it's cheaper but then a set may be of more use

Welcome to the club Greg. Lets see some pics soon.

Normally I do not use an extension tube not for birds anyway because you will lose infinity focus.

For insects or plants/flowers either the 12 or the 24, (the 35 is a bit too demanding for handheld shooting) but that really depends on what is on my mind at the time. Generally the 12 is more forgiving and is easier to use.

Well I just pulled the trigger and ordered one. Thanks to all on here, your knowledge and talent have made it a pretty easy decision. Except for the money of course. LOL

I have a 70-200 f4 non-IS now and wish to get IS for low light shots aka lower shutter seed without motion.. As the price difference of the the 70-200 f4 IS and the 70-300 IS is not much, can anyone advise me which one to get?

I assume the IQ is the same for both lens.. However I read somewhere that the autofocus hunt more than the 70-200..

0.2

AF will hunt no matter what lens if the subject it is pointed at has no contrast. Try it...

Now back to "hunt more then" statement - first you need to qualify it with some link back so we know what it is all about. 2nd - do not believe everything you read. People may just be trying to justify their own purchase of a 70-200 and rubbishing the other stuff.

I will say it again - Canon has only TWO zoom lens worth looking at. Both use the new IS. One is the 70-200 2.8 Mk II, you should know which the other one is. :(

My personal experience - use the 2 in identical conditions and within the same aperture/focal range and you cannot tell which is which.

haha, well most people regard the 2 lens , 100-400 and the 70-200 as the 2 zoom lens to look at, not necessary the 70-300.

if the 70-300 can match the 70-200 f4 IS in ters of IQ, i thought it would be a no brainer to get the 70-300 instead of the 70-200 IS..

As I said before 90% of all comment about lens that I read try to justify their purchasing decision so I do not usually prefer reading user input.

Perhaps "most" people do not know that the 100-400 is somewhat soft at the longer focal lengths???
