Keyan and Bobo! Thanks for the encouragement.

The picture with the goose overflying the mergansers (cropped to about 75%) had a large luck aspect to it. Mostly I was bumping the backbutton to regain focus when I got the center point on the goose and also holding down the shutter when I was on.

It was mostly luck that I was holding down the shutter when the goose passed over. I'm a bit new to this stuff so I'll take all the luck I can muster. Most of what I know about this stuff I learned from lurking on POTN.

The pictures in this forum section had a huge impact on me selecting the 70-300L. I did not want to buy an L Lens mostly because I'm a retired 70 year who needs to be careful to ensure my savings out last me. But I'm glad that I bought this lens.

Couple of months ago this lens was on cale for like $1100. Now it's back up to $1500. WTH?

Is there anyway to know when the lens may end up on sale again? I should have bought it back then now it's really a little pricey.

That was a random special sale, but now its back to roughly its usual going-rate. It might go back that low but I can't see it happening until some major holiday.

I got mine for $1500 during a May sale last year ($100 off list).... then it went down to $1250.... finally $1099 for that short period.

The bottom line is... it's a great lens even at list. The sales come and go but the enjoyment factor took away the sting of the lower sales prices after I got mine.

You might have some luck at Easter, but I wouldn't expect it going back to $1100 even then.
