Wow shots Gary, and congrats on the new lens. It will serve you well.

Thanks bobo, I'm really looking forward to having this lens on board and
I think it will drive me to bring my 5D on more trips, where before I'd leave
it behind, this should be a very handy walkaround lens!
My plans are to upgrade from the Tamron 28-75 to the Canon 24-105L
to compliment this new zoom.

Welcome to the club Daniel.

Thanks. This thread makes me feel like I made a good decision going with the 70-300. I'll be posting some photos from my 'yak soon I hope.

Gary, nice shots. pretty bold to sell a 35L, few do that but it is a great lens that is pretty amazing considering its a high quality zoom with a lot of range in a pretty compact package.

Thanks Tommy and yes, it hurts to part with the 35L but it's the only thing of enough value to make the purchase possible,
plus I didn't use the 35L much, I think it was one of those Grail lenses that you just gotta have,
I hope to press the zoom into more action and maybe be able to take it with me on my trips
overseas more, time will tell.

Under extreme conditions lol

It was almost pitch black outside. Shot with a 5D2 wide open and ISO at H2. Shutter speed was probably in the half second range. Maybe a little faster

thanks bobobird, finally I had something to post here, but I've following the thread and seen how is growing with people who finally decided to get this nice lens.

the cormorant is nothing special, except to say it was sitting two feet away from me in shallow water at the bank - peculiar behaviour so I figured it was sick or injured. Eventually it slowly swam away, so hope its fine...

These Egret shots are major crops - took maybe 50 various shots this afternoon and all but 3 or 4 were 'somewhat' usable - the majority required too much of a crop so no detail was retained. Fun outing with my buddy though - fun sneaking up on them through thick mud and twigs snapping and us chatting - so when I say 'sneaking' up to them - they literally saw/heard us from 3/4 of a mile away :-)

Well, THAT explains a lot! And how embarrassing...

Having failed to notice this thread is dedicated to photos taken using the L version of this lens, I posted a photo I had taken (#1124).

I sincerely apologize for the confusion my photo must have caused!! Anyone believing that my photo was taken with the L lens must have surely thought I had found some magical way to wreck its otherwise impeccable performance! Oh the agony I must have caused you! I'm so very sorry!

Of course, the different lenses FULLY explains the vast differences in the quality between my photos and everyone else's awesome photos here. That explains everything. Of course. Yeah, that's it. THAT'S why. Of course it is. :o

It's my life and I'll get pissed if I want to.
