Nice composition and angle of view on this. I like it. Just a thought from Daniel

The first thing that I noticed was the build quality. It is right up there with the 70-200 2.8 lenses and not like the polycarbonate 100l and 70-200 f4. It has some heft but is almost a perfect balance for me (shooting a 40d). This is the only extending lens that I have liked. There is no wobbling of the barrel like I've grown used to with my 17-55. Since I am planning on using this lens for wildlife the great build quality is very welcome. Image quality is equally impressive. Sharp wide open across the range with virtually no CA's. Images have that clean look that I've only seen from the 70-200mm f/2.8 IS II and prime lenses. I really feel like the iq is close to that lens if not equal, especially around 135mm where it is crazy sharp. Needless to say I am impressed. I also noticed that the lens has very nice bokeh; it's too early to say for sure, but I feel like the bokeh is smoother than the above mentioned 70-200 which tended too be harsh in certain situations. An added bonus is the pseudo macro abilities. I have been floored with the closeup performance. I will definitely be picking up some extension tubes. The autofocus has been very fast as well. Not expecting miracles in low light but I think it's the fastest lens I have used in this class. No accuracy problems right out of the box and that matters to me not having MA on my body. Despite my praise there are a couple of cons: 1.) swapping the zoom rings isn't conducive to good hand holding technique in my opinion. I can work with it but on a longer lens it would be a no go. 2.)no tripod collar. Doesn't matter for my uses but it would be expected at the price point. nice balanced wrap-up, thanks rob - check my galleries at http://hardlightimages.zenfolio.com/

Decided to step out of the box and try some Bee Macros using the 70-300L -- this one I cropped some and touched up a little. I like the sharpness and colors -- shot with my 40D and the 70-300L @ 300mm 1/1600th @ f8.0.
