I am literally dreaming of using it every night and looking at sample images here and Flickr to get by!

I am impressed by the IQ. I did notice a minor hit with the autofocus, but this was in pretty low light and I was focusing through the full range rather than limiting it. I purchased the lens due to it's flexibility. I am just starting to get into birds, but I have many other uses for this sort of lens, including kids sports, aviation, motorsport, wildlife in general, and astrophotography. It is an investment, but there is also a great pleasure you get from owning and using such a lens. Thanks Andrew. Even more impressive looking at the size of the crop
