Bought this lens a week ago, and I finally got the chance to try it on something that moves :)
I'm very pleased to say the least.
I had the first version a year ago, but sold it because it was too heavy to hand hold for longer durations. The new 500 is so much lighter, and it balances a lot better. I think the old version was very front heavy.

Very nice. I agree about the 500 being front heavy. I found that the 600 II to be a lot better balanced even though it's the same weight as the 500, it actually feels a bit lighter because of how it's balanced.

Thanks Methodical. I heard somewhere that it's front heavy partly due to a very heavy front element. The front element in the new lenses are much lighter and also not that impact resistant as the first version.
I went to the local airport today to take some pictures today, and the lens didn't let me down. I'll post a few images tomorrow.

Am I Lars on FM? No, I haven't registered on Fred Miranda forums (if that's what you meant).

The lens is amazing. I really like IS mode 3. Did quite a few sharp pans yesterday at 1/100 sek with the 7D MkII. So much easier to follow because of the lighter weight. Too bad it gets dark at 3pm this time of the year. I want to use it every day... :-)

Well have just received this lovely piece of glass and finished putting my Lenscoat on to protect my new investment only to find out it now no longer fits in the case LOL.

Anyway here is my first capture between clouds with the 2x tc MKIII fitted on a 5Dsr.

Still not managed to get out yet so had a quick 10 min in the garden.

5Dsr with 2x tc MKIII

Still cant get over how nice this lens is to be able to hand hold due to its weight and balance,am looking forward to shooting some bikes with it this coming season.
