I had the first version a year ago, but sold it because it was too heavy to hand hold for longer durations. The new 500 is so much lighter, and it balances a lot better. I found that the 600 II to be a lot better balanced even though it's the same weight as the 500, it actually feels a bit lighter because of how it's balanced. Gear

I heard somewhere that it's front heavy partly due to a very heavy front element. The front element in the new lenses are much lighter and also not that impact resistant as the first version.
