I decided to go hand held with the 600 today. I read where folks have complained about how large the hood is, but I've found that the hood actually helps balances the lens and makes hand holding the 600 easier (i.e well balanced). My old 500 f4 IS seemed more front heavy, whereas the 600 seems more back heavy (not sure of the exact term), or better balanced for easier hand holding. Here are couple from my outing today.

Thanks. I was on a monopod. I was shooting a football game near Andrews AFB and it came out of nowhere from behind the trees.
