I'm switching from iPhone 3gs to the HTC Desire (released today in the US).

The flash is nice and the camera (5mp) is at least as good as the iPhone.

I have a lot to learn about the market place, etc., but thus far I am very satisfied.

Are you in the US?

I have a lot to unlearn, then re-learn about smart phones

The Desire is a brilliant phone. I had one for about 3 weeks and I'm hoping to get another one very soon. I came from an iPhone, which I'd hated for a while. Everything about the Desire is just fun. The screen, Android, being able to customise everything.

Does the Desire and Evo have plastic screens and bodies?
Seems very cheaply made if they do.

The Desire actually feels very solid. I loved the feel of it when I had it and for how thin it is, it feels quite good. Better than the iPhone 4, IMO. Much better.

EVO an an outer plastic shell. The front screen feels like glass.

I currently have both the iPhone and HTC Desire. They are both great phones, and sure both have small issues I would change.
I switched from iPhone to Desire because of coverage and price concerns with AT&T.

I picked up a Desire on Thursday and LOVE it! Once Android 2.2 releases it will also bump the video to 720 HD. It's a great phone. :)

I have the i4 at the moment, and think it feels really good quality. Nice and heavy. The Desire in comparison felt cheap and plasticky, IMHO.

Its Lexus v Hyundai. Both good, but one has noticably better quality.

I wouldn't say that at all. The Desire is not cheap or plasticy and nothing is noticeably better. Obviously each to their own but I just feel your comparison to be completely underwhelming.

As I said, I've only held the iPhone 4 in a shop but it doesn't feel better than the Desire to me. In about a week, I'll have had a bit more use of an iPhone 4 so I'll compare more, but I honestly don't see myself wishing the Desire was more like the iPhone.

I actually picked up my new Desire today and I absolutely love it. Even more than when I first had it. I've just created my own basic apps with the Android App Inventor and it's loads of fun.
