Just wanted some outside opinions--I'm about to buy my very first DSLR from a reputable source. I can't decide between a refurbished XS or a used XSi (in excellent condition according to retailer). Both are the same price and come with a 90-day warranty from the retailer and then, of course, the refurb has the Canon 1yr warranty. Which would you get?

I'm also a beginner when it comes to DSLR's, but I'm nervous that if I get the XS in a year or so after I've gotten more experience, I'll wish I'd gotten the XSi. But I'm also nervous about not having the 1 year warranty through Canon initially. Decisions decisions. Help please?

EDIT: The 1 yr warranty is through the retailer on the refurb. Not Canon, I think.

XSi, the XS is basically a stripped down Rebel XT which was introduced 5 years ago or.

The XSI will give you better performance and the ability to grow into some of the advanced features, vs. needed to buy a new body in 6 months or year because you want to use a remote or another feature that the XS doesnt have.

Thanks for the response. You answered just as I'd thought. Sometimes I just need to hear it from someone else.:D

This was my dilemma a few weeks ago...XS or XSi. I ended up getting a refurbed XSi from B&H and I'm so happy that I did! I knew that if I had gotten the XS, I would have regretted it pretty quickly. Now I feel confident that if I purchase a couple of extra lenses down the road, I can use this camera until it dies :)

The Xsi is actually an excellent camera. I use it regularly on paid jobs (weddings, Bar Mitzvahs, portrait sessions)
