Major disease vector, especially in Africa and Asia (along with the more famous Aedes aegypti it carries dengue and chikugunya fevers). It's been introduced into the United States through an illegal trade in tires (the mosquito will breed in residual water inside tires), and is now a major pest in the southeast. Just found this one in the back yard today.
