Recommend me a Monopod Please

Hi everyone,

I'm currently looking for a monopod right now but it's hard to figure out which one to get.

-I'm 6' tall so finding one tall enough that doesn't force me to hunch over is top on my list.
-I would like it to fold down to about 18" (or smaller) in length if possible (definitely smaller than 24")
-It has to support enough weight to hold a 400 5.6L, which is one of my future lenses.

I'd prefer to spend only around 100 bucks (not including the quick release) but will extend to $150 it really helps find me the right one.

If you'd like to recommend a quick release, that would be great as well.

This would seem like a good option based on price, material, folded size, maximum height, capacity, and weight. Definitely seems like a good value to me.

I picked up the Manfrotto monopod listed in my sig and for what I needed it for it does the jobs. The Sigma 150-500 tele gets to be rather heavy after about 3 minutes without a support of some sort.

I have been using a Manfrotto 680B with a Manfrotto 234RC Swivel Head. I have a 400mm f/5.6 and a 70-200 f/2.8 that I use with this monopod all the time. The monopod is light and IMO is very well made. I hope this help you to make the right decision.

Gitzo 3551 is small enough to fit inside a carry-on yet goes well over 7 ft. It'll take a 300 f/2.8 IS no problem. You'll pay, but you'll get your money's worth.

I enjoy my Manfrotto 679B.

If height is the most important factor, then have a look at the Slik Pro Pod. There is always going to be a trade off between height, stability and folded length. Usually for a tall height, less sections are required to improve stability, the longer sections means a greater folded length etc.

My Manfrotto 685B Neotec Monopod works well for me and I'm 6'1"

I've only used it a couple of times but it seems bulletproof; the twist locks feel as solid as those on my Gitzo. I teamed it with a Manfrotto 494 ballhead and a Kirk 1.75" quick release.

I have been using a Manfrotto 680B with a Manfrotto 234RC Swivel Head.

I have the same combination and have enjoyed it for a number of years now. Not the super-lightest or fanciest combination out there, but rugged, reliable, and won't break the bank.

I have a Manfrotto 679B, which is sturdy and rugged, and inexpensive(less than US $50).
I simply use my Amvona clone of a Manfrotto 486RC2 head when I use it, which normally
stays on my Manfrotto 725B DIGI tripod.
