I thought I'd see how Oloneo handled a single image for tonemapping. This is a piece of equipment used at my project in Palm Springs. I like the ability to easily control the amount of detail from realistic to a more 'over the top' look.

Nice, I've been having pretty good luck with it too. This fall is gonna have some interesting HDR software releases, kinda exciting.

I'm amazed how fast and easy it is, Gene. Used it on a few of my old ones recently and am really pleased.

Thanks for the comments.

I only used a single image since that's all I took. I didn't shoot bracketed exposures because the scene didn't have a large dynamic range. By using Oloneo, I was able to bring out more detail and what I would consider "micro-contrast". I did this as a little experiment to see how the software handled a single image for tonemapping.

Indeed very promising result.
Gives a sense of sharpening without really sharpening.
Its kind of like Peter Jackson in Lord of the Rings. He used many different ways to make the small folk look small
even though they were full sized actors. Then he mixed their uses so it was harder for the viewer to unconsciously figure them out.
More tools to make the shot appear sharp is better.

Nice results. The foreground clouds look a little funky, but the rest of it looks very nice.

If you're used to using something like Photomatix, you'll be amazed with what Oloneo does with a properly shot multi-image HDR (even a set that isn't completely proper). And, it does it in mere seconds. I've taken some of my old ones and redone them in seconds. I'll admit, it takes a little longer to load the raw versions, but the 'working' results are very fast. When I did some originally sized jpgs, it took 20-30 seconds each to run them through. That's the whole process - from loading to saving. Give it a spin and see what you think. There doesn't seem to be any restriction on the beta, other than not using it for commercial use. I'll be standing in line when it comes up for sale, as long as they don't want an arm and a leg for it.

I don't do multi shot HDR, I was just hoping it would do a good mock HDR from a single RAW. I had a play and found it ok, kinda interesting, but nothing amazing.

Wow Oloneo is pretty awesome. I'm not that into HDR but doing a little tone mapping on a single raw can make some nice looking pictures. I usually try to keep it realistic looking. I've played with Photomatix before and seemed like a lot of work. Oloneo took 20 seconds to figure out for me to do some simple tone mapping. This might not be the best use of the program, or the best example of what it can do, but whatever, I really like this picture now:

Same thing I found. Try it with a set of bracketed shots now.

Oloneo looks great... wish there was a OSX ver though - not into running photo apps in parallels. Anyone know when a mac ver will be released?
