The first shot is a direct export from DPP.The second is after PP. Other than the angle of the shot (which had to be fixed) - did I make it better or worse ? Just trying to figure out what I could've done differently...

#1 - as shot

San Francisco? I like the second pic, higher contrast? I'm not a photoshop editor so I can't really point out the exact changes you made but all i can say is the second photo is less "flat" than the first, so works out better for me :)

Yes, it's SF - the view of the Fisherman's Warf taken from the Liberty ship anchored right behind the submarine.

Somehow it just lacks clarity, even though it's reasonably in focus... either that, or I need to give my eyes a break.

I am not good at PP either, but it seems that it is still leaning to the left to me. The two building on the top right were almost straightened, but the bridge and the submarine, and all the boats seem to be leaning to the left.

What is the subject of this photo?

Edit: Seems to me that the front corner of the submarine is in focus, but as you get farther away, the focus decreases.

What is the Exif for the shot?

The subject was the view of the city and the Fisherman's Warf with sub and the boats.

I was afraid that if I rotate it any more to the right, the skyscraper on the very right - (the Transamerica building) - would appear leaning to the right, and also would get clipped.

i dont think the pp is the issue here. i think the overall composition leads to lack of interest in the image as a whole. there needs to be a clearly defined subject imo. its as if you are too high to sell the submarine and too low to make it a "view" shot. kind of a tweener to me.

Straightening...lol. Every time I straighten the horizon, I hang the picture crooked.

Leaning towards the second, but I would pull back some on the sky. If viewed larger the lighthouse might look like a cutout.
