In my opinion the second one wins hands down. The first one looks messier. Also the second one seems to have stronger contrast, and a better, balanced composition. I think it's all around a more pleasing photograph to look at. Both are very nice.

I like the 2nd simply because of the position of the sun and reflections.

Aditya, coirchild and Robbin : Thanks for your CC !

Its all a matter of taste and personally like #2 for the reasons Robbin wrote
It was 43 degrees Celsius with90% humidity when i took those but it was worth it

Chiming in for #2 also. My eye can't easily find a place to go to in the first. It is torn between the upper and lower half. In the second I am drawn right to the bird in the lower left center and then to it's surroundings. Nice photo.

Here is another interpretation of #2. It looks like you burned down the water around the bird on the right. Notice the lack of contrast and slight shift in sheen and color? There is a non destructive way to burn these areas without these artifacts.

Personally I think this is a fabulous image. It has a really great quality to it starting with the bird silhouette in the foreground and the wonderful reflection of trees. The gravel bar adds great texture to enhance the feel of this naturally beautiful spot and the tone and light are excellent.
