Markins makes a new line of L brackets, only for one Nikon and for the 5D2. I wonder if anyone has the 5D2 L bracket and what they think of it.

But Jay! Why consider when the RRS is so well known as a great solution? Is the Markins THAT much cheaper (I dont know the price)?

Hey, ben,

Yes, I agree it's the best solution, but cost is not the reason for posting that thread. I hurt my back last week bending down to see through the viewfinder with the camera on the 1541t. Seeing the specs on the new tall Feisol, I bought it. I feel like a traitor,:( but I'm over 6' tall and need the extra 12" of non-center column extension.

The 3441T legs, however, extend beyond the ballhead, and with the RRS lever QR at 60mm in length, it's hard to invert and close the legs. I was thinking of getting the Markins lever release and thought perhaps to get their L bracket, too.

But I love the RRS lever QR and might want to get their pano setup, etc. I solved the problem. RSS makes a smaller lever QR that's 50mm long, basically the same as the Markins lever release. I'll be able to keep my RRS L bracket and collar plates.

I'll buy that shorter RRS QR, and the new Q3t with the wider-spaced knobs, I think in blue this time, and send Markins the RRS QR to mount on it. I'll then sell the 1541t/Q3t/RRS QR on the Selling forum. I'm sure someone will be happy.

Everything depends on the Feisol living up to what people say here. My back looks forward to it. And if things go well, I'll post a review.

I have the Markins L-Bracket and a touch of buyers remorse. When the bracket is attached to the body there appears to be a bit of flex in the "vertical" plate. Furthermore, I can't use my TC-80 remote when using portrait mode with the Markins.

The Kirk L-Bracket seems to be similarly priced (i.e. a fair bit cheaper than the RRS) but looks a lot more robust, and with better access to the remote ports on the 5DII body . There is a little tab at the top of the vertical plate that butts up against the camera and stops the plate from flexing.

You can see the difference in build in the photos:

Thanks. Good to know. I've had no such problems with the RRS L bracket.

I love my RRS L bracket for 5D II. You won't be disappointed.

Wow! Thats a def deal breaker considering the RRS has zero of these issues. Wow, Im actually surprised that the Markins would do that!
