How many of you have one or the other? Maybe even both. What do you write and post in your blog? Who reads it? Enquiring minds want to know. :)

I've always liked the idea of having a blog/photoblog, but I'm terrible at actually submitting something every day. Heck, my regular journal gets an entry every half year or so!

Tell me about your blogs and maybe I'll get inspired. :)

Umm, I'm in the negative on blogs.
a. I keep a diary for work... ones enough
b. POTN and RAW workflow consumes a lot of after hours time as it is. Blog maintenance (with whatever end result of the blog intent) will chew up even more shutter time.
c. Blogs seem to be elongated, extrapolated and sometimes even elegant details which could be boiled down to a single "About Me" page and a gallery of photos showing improvement.
d. There are alternatives. I simply bin my better pics in a Top Ten gallery. Such a mini portfolio should tell you reams about a photographer given that (in theory) ten photos is equivalent to ten thousand words... :)

I keep one on LiveJournal (external link) where quite a few of my friends also keep one.

In it I put things that happen, as well as most of my pictures (You know, most of the ones that I'm not brave enough to post here  ) My journal is mostly read by friends and family who are interested in my attempts at photography and enjoy my sarcastic comments and stories that sometimes accompany them, which I'll admit I enjoy writing at times as well.

Thanks for looking!

I keep a LiveJournal (external link) as well, I've been thinking about making my photo posts public access and hosting the site on the website I'm working on for my portfolio. I have friends trying to peer pressure me into using Flickr, but I prefer to use the gallery setup in my sig or FTP the files to my server.

I did a thing awhile back where I asked everyone who read to submit a list of 5 things they'd like me to shoot (from a shot of my darkroom to abstract concepts like "life"), I'm working on setting up those shots as a gallery. It's a fun project.

Oh yeah, the reason I keep my LiveJournal "friends only" is because I know full well that when I apply for a job at a newspaper, that editor's going to run my name and come up with it. I don't like having to censor myself about work or school.

I journal, on a very regular basis. Some of the entries get enlarged into stories/essays/articles, some become nothing more than a "poor me" whine, and others are just boring. I am, at the moment, journaling relatively heavily because of a life situation, which will likely become something for print...but until it's completed, I don't know.

And it's all private. Not even on-line (until it sells, and then perhaps published that way on line.) I don't have a photoblog, but am trying to develop a webbie for the day when I've got some good shots.

Best-
Noni

Got a blog where I rant and a photoblog where I plead. I don't care who reads them as I do it for myself. Oh, and I keep some photos on <cough> Flickr <cough>.

I sort of have a "blog" but its just of recent pictures I've taken and not much to read. Does anyone really look at it? No not really, maybe a hit a day or something like that. I get more exposure to my site by posting on message boards then through google.

I basically have it for relatives, friends and others to see. Why I really have it is because its a huge drain of my time when I decide to redo it, which I seem to do every 3-6 months.

::chuckle:: I can't fault you for that, but my point was that (in regards to my friend with the Flickr account), I have a system that I like and that works great. It might be a bit involved, but I have over 700 images already up on the gallery, and I'm nowhere close to using the space I pay a pittance for every month.

If, however, you guys were serious about maybe starting a place for photography students (or just college students who are looking to get a job in the field), I'd be more than happy to help however I can. I think that's a great idea as I'm in that boat myself.

Oh, and I remember checking out your old website portfolio, it was very humbling. Made me want to get out and shoot better.

thank you, it was just my photoblog probably...i wouldnt really say i ever tried to bust out a top 10 portfolio...i just go out try hard and post whatever i ome up with on that thing. And if im working try to keep the content the complete opposite so i dont get burnt out.

yeah, not sure about what to do with the student thing, sportsshooter.com has a great system kicking for students as it is though. I am transfering to western kentucky for Photojournalism (start in 2 weeks) so I bought luckyinkentucky.org the other day as a pet project, maybe create something for the students there. Id like to start an ezine really, and PDF download photography magazine or something, dont really know...just batting around ideas.

buuuuut what I REALLY need to be working on is getting my photoblog back up...its been down for a month now and it has a lot of work to be done.

Mine, I guess, is more of a photo journal, but I do have photos and links to some of my galleries. I like doing this, and I wasn't sure if I would. I use mine as a way to also document what worked, what didn't, and to-do items for me to concentrate on later, kind of like additional homework assignments. This way, I will always have something photographically to be working on. :-) My photoblog is here (external link).

... and not a single profit motive there. Nice one ;)

I use PixelPost too and found it very simple to install. The main problem is getting around to sorting images for upload ... it's a mission. The only ones I've posted are ones that I had at roughly a reasonable size. I have hundreds of others that are yet to be post processed!

Now getting them up via PixelPost is Ok, but doing the PP before hand is what's hard, unless you do them one at a time as you decide to keep them. I need something that will shrink all mine to 640px wide automatically. Maybe then I'd do some uploading. The categorisation is easy tho; much better than others I've tried. Be nice if you could decide which order they appear.

If I got around to adding some then I'd probably quite like writing a bit about each image too. As it is I have other things more important to do ... like doing nothing
