I actually don't like shooting airshows in some sense b/c shot of a plane with a plain blue background really bores me. I like dramatic background/clouds to make the picture interesting but that's a rare thing. So I'm messing around with different processing to break up the plane blue background thing.

Camarillo is a small city airport just north of Los Angeles and it's known for having lots of warbirds flying in formation. It was really cool to see it.

I'd clone out some of the clutter in #1 and the Corsair is a little lost in the last one but the rest, well, Rock!

Nicely Done!!

What he failed to mention (and what is even more amazing) is that he squeezed 700+ shots out of a drained battery.

Then what you're saying is that he didn't really shoot much...? ;)

Yeah, come to the East Coast and you can shoot with boring gray backgrounds! I like what you have done with these - #1 is tops for me, agree the Corsair is a bit lonely in the last shot.

Thanks folks.
I hear you about the clutter in no. 1 Jay. I saw that but didn't feel like cloning out junk. Too lazy.

Yeah, I just got a 1DsMII and had only one battery with me, and in the morning when I turned it on, it was half full but preceded to die after a few minutes. So I had to keep turning it off, turn it back on to get it to work for a little while. Once it was warmer mid day, it tended to stay on at half full but toward thee end of the show it was on fumes and I could only manage to keep it on for about a minute or so and manage off two shots before it shut off. Forget about AF'ing as that would kill the battery.

Having said that for a 1/2 or less of a charge, the battery lasted from about 10AM till about 4PM on continuous AF pretty much all day and I manage to squeeze over 700 shots from the "dead" battery. Not bad.

Also, this is my second airshow I've shot and remembered to keep shutter speeds low to blur the props so I kept it at 1/160 or lower and man that was tough to pan at such shutter speeds and trying to keep things sharp. But one thing is worse that a plane frozen in a blue sky/void is that the props are frozen by high shutter speeds.

Ha ha, I lived in MI for three years. No thank you. I'll enjoy the cloudless sunny days in Los Angeles with cool dry winds and no humidity.
:)
