In preparation for getting this really wet. The 8" dome makes this huge, the last one is next to a 1D Mk II for scale.

You will have to add on for:

8" Dome port $800
Port Extension $125
2 x DS16 Strobes + Synch cords and arms $2,120

And of course with me being in the UK it cost quite a bit more :-(

dudeeeeeeeee

I want to see those photos!!!!

From my experience, under water photography is ALL about your strobes. And your post processing. But mostly your strobes.

I guess it depends on your definition,.
They are mass produced to an extent,. but really the cases are "custom" to each specific body, and I am pretty sure the manufacturing and tolling is very hands on and specific as well.
Maybe "Semi Custom"

They are amazing tools, and very pricey, but if it's what you do, it's the way to go!

Sorry, to me, custom means you buy it, and then you do some other work on it yourself... I definitely wouldn't mess around with an underwater setup though. Too much to gamble with.

It is all about your diving

If you are a pants diver all the kit in the world will not help.

Its all about your ability to take a well exposed and lit photograph

If you are a pants photographer all the kit in the world will not help.

but you are correct a decent set of strobes will make a big difference :-)

You are right, that lens gets rave reviews for diving, I use Sigma 10-20 & 17-50

Sorry, "Pants" is an English idiom for "not very good"

Underwater photography requires really good buoyancy control and ridiculous patience (so being very frugal with your air or nitrox really helps).

Most divers I know hate diving with a photographer, as staying in a single spot on a reef for 60 minutes is not their idea of fun :-)

No one really likes being with a photographer at all! We are too slow for people who look at each thing for two seconds maximum. It sucks being the photographer who is dragged around faster than he would like as well! Pants snapshots is all you get...
