So I'm on the verge of ordering some GND filters. I'm thinking of getting some 2 stop and 3 stop SOFT edge filters based on all of the feedback I got. I am wondering how worth while you've found your filter purchase. Do you use yours often?

I know the answer may partially depend on the type of photograph you do...but humor me :)

Depends on what type of photography you do :).

I find them to be extremely valuable with landscape shooting. Really help from blowing out the sky or clipping the foreground.

Thanks TaDa. So let me ask you this, for every 10 landscapes you shoot, how many do you use a GND filter?

I use my CPL for pretty much every landscape shot to either blue the sky or remove reflections, the GND's I use almost as much. Even if shaded by trees there almost always seems to be some strong light peeping through that needs to be held back to balance things out.

Most used filter is my CPL, then the 3 and 2 stop soft GND follows. I live in a mountainous part of the world.

Some people have found uses for them beyond landscape photography. However, for me, I only use them for landscape. Otherwise, they usually stay in my bag.

Do you enjoy landscape photography? Are you willing to carry your tripod around? Are you patient enough to take the time to set everything up? Sometimes I admit it's quite a chore to set the tripod, remove UV filter, attach adapter, attach filter holder, adjust GND, etc. However, when the result comes out the way I envision, I find it worthwhile.

If I'm shooting hand held or it's a photo that has a moving element in it, I'll use an ND grad. If I'm using a tripod, I'll shoot two or three wide exposures and combine them in photoshop.

I use them all the time and it has made a huge difference to all my landscape shots. I know they are expensive but I wouldn't be with out them now!

i find them a needed item for good landscapes in the "golden hours"

i really wouldnt go out without them now

Out of ten true landscapes? every one that has any sky in it. I carry 0.3, 0.6 and 0.9 hard grad filters. the aperture has a big impact on the hardness or otherwise of the graduation and I find hard grads suit me better.
