I think it was clear the OP was talking about video. The 60D may very well become the video SLR of choice instead of the 7D. You aren't going to be using 8fps, 19point AF, or even the 100% VF while shooting video, so what's left as an advantage?

I wasn't arguing that the 60 isn't a better video camera, just the idea that the 60 mades the 7 obsolete. Don't think so.

Um, No

They shot themselves in the foot making a camera that wouldn't sell very well. On the bright side used 60Ds might be quite cheap in a short while as people upgrade to 7D.

Thank you for the posting and your family looks sweet. In daylight all video cameras are great. But in a room with low light, even the 7d has problems without a fast lens. I can't wait to see the 60d High iso test that will surely be on everyones screen soon.

That Dynamic Image Stabilization is REALY good on the vixia. Another feature to add to the 5d3 PLEASE.

Enginyr, why not just get an external panel that goes in your hotshoe and works with both your 7D and 5Dii?

I thought about that but it will need to be powered, thus more batteries, more wires, more brackets and more things to break. I even though about using my HTC Evo or an Ipad.

The 60D looks really tempting!

For video the 60d might be a better camera but after the release of the specs I went straight out and purchased a 7d. I'm surprised a number of basic XXD features were missing from the 60D Inc MA ,mag body, legacy button layout etc. Its not a replacement XXD at all in my opinion and apart from the glitzy screen it's a pretty poor cousin to the 7d and is sitting in it's own category I.e XXXd (s)

they can shoot themselves wherever they want, people will keep buying.

Yeah. Canon has earned at LEAST octopus status as far as legs go. Its okay if they shoot one because it'll just grow back quickly.

If video were significant to me I'd either buy a separate audio recording device and maybe an external screen for my 7D, or buy a 60D, depending on my specific needs and suitability.

The screen is certainly easily fixed with an external, but it costs a bit, but the audio needs a separate device and hopefully you don't end up forgetting to start audio recording! :D On top of that you'll then have to sync it afterwards, a bit more work but rewarded with better quality audio - a personal decision.

Also a 5D2 maybe a consideration. It still doesn't give you a flip-out screen but you gain manual audio control. 5D2 rigged with a separate LCD and a good mic would be a neat unit.

Great use of a camcorder (like the videos), Used how it suppose too be used. I am lost why people a converting still cam's for primary use as camcorders. I could not agree with you more.

I was a member of the EOS xxD.

I owned the 10D, 30D, and 40D.

When Canon brought out the 50D they said it was NOT a replacement for the 40D but another model to be sold alongside the 50D. In fact reviews were written on the 50D saying in a few areas it was not as good as the 40D. This should have been a hint on where Canon was heading with the xxD line, but who knew how to take the hint?

So when it came time to upgrade I went off to buy a 5DII, I was introduced to the 7D and opted for it instead.

Now the 60D comes out and what do ya know?? Canon took what was known as their prosumer line and brought it full circle to the consumer line.

Audio Control on the 60D - yeah Canon put that consumer function inside the camera. Ask any professional producer of video how they take care of the audio.

Articulating Screen - yup another feature most common on consumer cameras.

Mass Storage - out of all the DSLR's on the market where is the SD card most prevalent? You guessed it, on the consumer cameras. Of sure there are one or two pro models that may have SD card, but when looking at the pro lines overall what do you find? CF cards of course.

The other day I had the opportunity to use a 50D. My cousin was in town and we went hunting for birds in flight. His gear consisted of the 50D and the Canon 400mm L prime lens. I had the 7D and Canon 100-400mm L zoom. At the end of the day we returned our cameras to each other and he said... " damn I knew I should have gotten the 7D and that zoom is amazing. "

I will put my hands on the 60D when it comes out, but reports and reviews so far seem to have shaped a somewhat negative opinion of it for me. Nothing really new in the 60D, one writer called it the FRANKENCAMERA, saying Canon engineers went to the spare parts room and threw some existing pieces together to make the 60D.

The 7D on the other hand, has things other camera owners are wanting - like that AF system.

I will soon be buying another camera body, I was going to buy the 50D but after using one for an entire day I have decided to go with the superior Canon 7D.

QUESTION for those who went from the 50D to the 7D.

What was your impression on how the 7D felt in your hands as compared to the 50D?

For me the 50D did not feel as robust or well built, I almost want to say the 50D did feel as good to me as my old 40D did, but it has been a few months since I held the 40D.

What Canon needs to do is make a high quality HD camcorder like the HV30. ( I am partial to tape based HD systems because of a lower compression ration giving better video quality ) and put an EOS lens mount system on it.

I love my 7d but man I sure could use that articulating screen for video especially doing the bend over backwards stuff for weddings and focusing is already a pain.

Now, do I sell my 7d and have to get new memory cards just wait it out till the rest of the canon line gets fitted with the new screens? (also profit $300)

Weather sealing is no issue to me since Los angeles it doesn't rain much and if it does i'm out.

7d doesn't let you control sound and the 60d does so thats a plus.

60d is lighter, but doesn't have the superb focusing system like the 7d but i'm no sports photographer so even the 5D is fine.

I think canon really shot themselves in the foot completely obsoleting the 7d?

buy a lcd screen mount it anywhere but stick with the 7d if you use it for video should invest in some of the options to turn this little camera into a big boy
