but every camera is different so it doesnt matter. If its off on your 7D if might be fine on someone elses.

but my brother told me try the t2i with the new focus system and metering

The t2i has the same focus system as the other rebels. The 50d has an imrpved focus system by having all its outer focus points as cross type as well so you might get an improvement there.

Doesn't the camera your trading in need to be registered with Canon?

Mine wasn't. Sent it in for repair, they responded with "here's the price to fix it, or you could upgrade to a ..."

Yet, we always ask the lens seller if he's had any focus issues.

You are basically trading better high ISO, movie mode, and more cropability/resolution for micro adjustments, a bigger seemingly better built larger body with a few nice features like fps and dials vs buttons. I am not sure I would consider that a move up, but maybe a lateral move? It depends what your priorities are though in the end. I could see it being a move up in the ergonomics area at a minimum.

right, you are sacrificing better ISO performance, megapixels and HD video for a higher FPS rate, micro adjustment and size. Only you can decide if the change is worth it
