I spend most of my time learning from taking pics of my kids. The almost 2 year old is now getting harder to photograph as she runs around but my 6 month old son is now making some great faces.

Great expression, great DOF, great colours and lighting is good, if only you didn't chop his head off. ;)

I know, it makes me sad. I should have paid closer attention. Thanks for the response.

The tip-top of the head being chopped isn't nearly as distracting as they slight slant of the image. Even with that- the exposure, lighting, color balance, and subject all make this a great shot. Certainly a keeper.

Great shot. Would work better with a vertical composition, which might allow you to put the top of his head back on.

I just had to laugh with that expression! I think if you are going to crop a head do so a little lower towards the brow. Cropping a small portion off feels like you weren't planning the frame very carefully and used what you captured as is. The other choice is to include his entire head.

Other than the top of the head being chopped off, this is a great photo.

I second everything that has already been said. Love the pic, and can't think of anything to criticize!

something that i have come to learn with my photography

i look at the photos i take and i look at the lighting, the composition, the contrast, the white balance and all the other technical elements that make up the photo

but when you show a photo to a parent of their child, they dont look for any of that, they look for the expression on the face and if they like it , they think its a great photo

i think this applies to this photo... it doesnt matter if it is technically perfect (head being cut off) or not

(even though we are in the critique area of a photo forum)

I completely agree, which is why I love this forum for getting feedback. I can ask my wife or other family members but it could be a horrible picture but since it is our little kids it is always great. And it makes it harder for me as the dad to critique my own kids. Thanks for the feedback.
