I have a T1i in which I am VERY happy with -the equipment is very capable, has served me well, and still produces great results. The only thing I wish it had was a weather proof body. If I knew what I know now at the time of purchase, I would have just purchased a 50D or a 7D. Living in the Seattle area, the weather is usually always wet and unpredictable - not good for me since I like to photograph landscape and outdoor stuff. I am pretty wary taking the camera out in the rain. Having a T1i does not allow me to take my camera out in the different elements to do what I enjoy (we go hiking quite a bit and I would like to bring the camera).

With that said, I will probably get the 7D (possibly even a 50D since I don't do fast moving subjects??) soon. Are those a good choice in terms of withstanding harsh weather? Should I sell the T1i or keep it as a back-up? I am not in a financial disadvantage so I don't mind keeping it, but I don't know how much it would be used if I got a new body. Thanks!

EDIT: I am a pure hobbyist / enthusiast. My income is not from photography.

Weather sealing only works if you LENSES and accessories (like flash) are also sealed. None of your lenses are weather sealed, so you could have minimal benefit upgrading to the 7D. (the 50D is not sealed).

But to be honest, I've used my 10D/20D/30D/40D/50D and EF-S lenses in rain and they hold up quite well. Just put a bag over it or something. I use ziploc bags

Hm, I guess I could try that in the mean time and just build my lens collection up and then get the 7D in the future. Thanks!

None of the cameras are completely weatherproof. Maybe you should just stick with the camera you like and get some protective gear for it.

By the way, the 50D is practically as good with fast moving subjects as 7D.

Yeah, if your goal is weatherproofing you won't benefit from getting a 50D. Since you are happy with the T1i so far you're probably better off keeping it and saving your money for lenses or a more significant body upgrade.
