Now I like my XSI.. but I live a bit north from Vancouver still relatively close to the coast and it rains a LOT.. so I'll probably be upgrading my body once I get work again since I don't like the weather to stop me. Now, what is the cheapest weather-sealed body there is? Preferably something full-frame, but it doesn't really matter that much to me.

I'm aware I need weather-sealed lenses as well, but I already know what to get for that.

For FF the 5D Mark II, for a cropped frame 7D or 1D Mark III.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

I wouldn't put that 5d2 or 7d weather sealing into the same category as the 1 series...that would be a mistake.

I don't think the 5D2 has full sealing. It has better sealing than it's predecessor, but not to the extent of a true weathersealed body like the 7D. So I guess the cheapest new weathersealed FF Canon camera is the 1Ds mark III. LOL Or you can get the Nikon D700.

7D is pretty darn good. One of the first reviews on it was a video, and they poured like a bucket of water all over it. I don't know if it gets better than that really. lol

Well I might as well save up for the 5D2, I never shoot sports/wildlife..
Would it be good to go in say, pouring rain?

Let me guess the 5D classic isn't weather sealed or not as good sealed :( Was hoping I could get that so I could pick up a 70-200 f/4 is..

You are also going to need weather sealed L lenses to complete the package, so start saving even more!

Honestly, if you are not on a pro budget and you want weather sealing, look at Pentax. Their K7 (50D competitor) is weather sealed and they have quite a few cheaper weather sealed lenses. They even released a set of weatherproof kit lenses - the equivalent of the 18-55 IS and 55-250 IS for maybe only a $50 premium.

So basically you are probably in the wrong brand! :)

Interesting article about the same kind of weather the op has.

I thought that the misinfo of the 7d having different sealing was stamped out as marketing hype a year ago. Look, the 7d and 5d2 both use foam type gaskets. They are sealed the same as the early 1n series but not as good as the 1v or 1d series bodies.

The 1d series > 1v series, 3 series > 1n series.

The 1 series uses rubber gaskets/seals and are truly weather resistant. The 5 and 7 series will survive for a few minutes in a downpour but will fail 10mm of rain over 3min.

You know what happens when the 5 and 7 series get wet? First you lose the joy stick, then the shutter button, then the LCD, and so on. They don't always fail instantly, they fail in stages.

There is a reason why the 5 and 7 series are marketed as weather resistant and not weather SEALED.

p.s. I swear to The Maker if someone posts the pictures from the 7d in the Artic I will pop a blood vessel. Powder =/= Wet snow or humidity.

i must be lucky cause ive used my rebel and my 7d in rainy conditions (mostly light showers) and snow, and never had a problem at all. i guess its luck. Also when I shoot in the rain im usually shooting sports with the 70-200 2.8, which although isnt "sealed", im sure it does alot better than say an 18-55 IS kit lens (great lens though beside build quality!)

canon 7d, canon 5d classic, 24-70 2.8 L, 70-200 2.8 (non-is) L, .

I was going to agree with MichaelBernard when I made a search for weather sealed canon cameras and found that link and I always had believed that only the 1 Series had that kind of build to make it in that kind of weather ,Well it nice to learn that canon makes some well built cameras.

It's just been posted like 11ty billion times brother. Each time the legend of the unbreakable 7d grows...

IMAGE: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v328/AudibleSilence/3si%20and%20GTOUK%20Hosting/Smilies/076111e4.gif
It's not true...simply not true. The 7d is weather resistant, but in no way, shape, form, or schroom induced dream walk could it ever stand toe to toe with the kind of weather conditions that would give a 1d-series camera a run for it's money and come out working.

This is why reviews like that need to be taken with a grain of salt the size of a baseball. Will it stand up to a light drizzle, powder, cold, heat, etc? Sure. Will it stand up to a torrential downpour, wet snow, extreme humidity, sand, mud, dust, etc? Nope. I've had my 1ds in a torrential downpour and -17 degree weather before and I at it's worst I only lost the refresh rate of the LCD inside of 30 minutes (cold) but the camera itself kept on shooting with zero issues.

The seal is hilarious though
