This is a shot for me of the first technical day of fall (Sept 1st). This is the lower water season and it will be a month or so before the the fall colors arrive. Personally, this is a lovely park for many reasons.

Great location and picture. Where along Sligo Creek is this, if you don't mind sharing?

I like it... a lot... but there's something about it that nags me and I cannot put my finger on what. Maybe the empty space on the left, but I'm not sure. It feels out-of-balance.

Nice shot, but I kind of agree with photoguy6405 that there's something out of balance - maybe if it had been shot from a slightly different POV it would balance out better. Also, to be really nitpicky, it's technically not the start of fall until Sept. 23 - http://www.infoplease.com/spot/equinox1.html (external link).

stsva, when the kids are in school, and it's september, to ME it's fall. trying to steal my thunder are ya?

thanks. due to the empty space, I was stuck in a spot I couldn't move. So I got what I got. But the empty space in the front left where there are NO rocks?

Yeah, I get that fall thing - unfortunately the weather still feel like summer around here. On the composition, I think it's the very dark diagonal stretch of woods in the upper left corner that's bothering me; the rocks and water look good. That dark space above them just kind of "zeroes out" and doesn't really balance the reddish/brown rocks like the rest of the greenery does.
