A storm was rolling in last night and I went down to the lake to catch the last glimpse of daylight before it was swallowed by the clouds.

C&C always welcome.

Very nicely done - thanks for sharing. I love the wide, low angle shot with the foreground gravel detail, contrasting with the whispy glowing clowds.

Nicely done. Why didn't I have a good storm there?

Interesting contrast between the polygons of the rocks and the curved sweep of the cloud.

Very nicely done! Where did you shoot the image? My wife and I were thinking of heading north one of these days to drive along the west shore of Lake Superior. It's been a few years and your image makes me want to go sooner than later. Thank you for sharing.

You know, we never really get much in the way of storms up here. Ive heard thunder only a handful of times this year and I used to love falling asleep to a good, loud thunder storm when I lived in the Twin Cities.

In fact, the storm in this pic fizzled out and didnt produce any activity either...

This one is from Brighton Beach - its a public park just about a mile from my house which is on the East side of town.

Make the trip any time of year - you wont be disappointed. If you're on the North Shore, the sunrises are far more spectacular than the sunsets so you'll have to be up early for photos. I think the South Shore has the luxury of seeing both fairly well but the hills on the MN side make for tough sunset photos from this side.

Thanks everyone else!

Just out of curiosity, my home monitor isnt calibrated and the rocks look a little red for my taste on my work computer. Is my work monitor the one out of calibration or does everyone else see that too? In that case, the problem is with my home computer...

That was a nutty little front that moved over last night. And now it is cold and the wind is blowing to beat all hell. Anyways, yeah, knowing that area very well, it is a bit red:

This is after a quick auto colors, auto levels, and a light curves adjustment in PS CS3. With the Raw image you should be able to get much better results than this.

Regarding the edit. IMHO either image works . I think we have the artistic license to be flexible in the interpetation of the scene. If it pleases the artist eye they I can accept it as their vision of what was there . The quality of light on any given day can change the colors of a given scene. Some may be very unique to that moment . Sometimes we may be able to "improve" on what was there. Most times we stand in awe of what nature creates itself. Just my thoughts ...not picking at anyone . We all want to help one another. Best way sometimes is to accept what is posted as a personal view .
