As much as I want to see a bigger sensor, the answer is no.

you wonder if Canon will end the G series and bring in a four thirds camera which would obviously have the larger sensor, after all they are not much smaller ; then again I suppose price wise they fit in nicely between compact and dslr and indeed any 4/3 camera they may produce.

I doubt it. But, damn, a G11 form factor with an APS-C or 4/3 sensor and a better viewfinder would be the ultimate travel camera!

I would just like a larger sensor, but without interchangable lenses. If I have to change lenses, why would I care how compact the body is when the lens it big?

I'd like simply a G with a fixed zoom lens and the 4/3 size or aps-c sized sensor.

Yeah, yeah, I know: physics.

Thank you. bw!

Also, if the G only goes to 720 HD at 24fps, what's the point? It'll be almost exactly the same as the S95.

I'm holding out hope that they are going to up the HD resolution or something dramatic. Otherwise, what's the point?

Thank you. bw!

Personally, I'd forgo video altogether if it allowed for a large sensor compact with a reasonable price tag :D

+1 here. I never use video on a still camera.

I also do not use video on my point and shoot cameras. I do want a high quality digital camera that has excellent photography capabilities, to include a larger sensor, without having to get a DSLR kit. My stepson has the right priorities, he has an SD1100 for basic photography and a $700 HD Canon video camera to take lots of excellent video of their son, now 18 months old.

I don't take any video, so my priorities are photo image quality, a versatile zoom lens, plus manual controls, etc...like my G11. The new Nikon P7000 looks nice, but it still has the same size sensor as the G9 through G11 cameras. The new Pany LX5 looks interesting, but the zoom range is perhaps too short for my tastes. Cameras like the m43, NEX 5, etc., require various lenses, and therefore extra costs and weight = less convenient for me.

I may eventually have to give in and get a small interchangeable lens system, but I'm hoping to avoid that direction.

Dennis

Video does little to effect the cost so weather you use it or not you will probably see video in every camera from now on. If you want a good compact the S95 and Lx5 are both very good. I have both ( well my wife got the S95 ) and for a point and shoot they exceed my expectations.

Canon probably wants a clear delineation between the talents of the G series and their SLRs. If they made a really good G series their Rebel sales would probably tumble. Think about it, they don't want competition amidst their own product line.

Now if they were to get pushed by an outside competitor then that would be another matter. Course, companies such as Nikon likely face the same issue as Canon.

they don't have to end the G line, simply change the process.

look at S series of cameras few years back, and the new S, put them side by side you would never know that they are from the same group.
