I just finished a little write up on a lesser known 16th century explorer that traveled up and down the California and Oregon coasts between 1533 and 1535. Here is how the first voyage's log started:

  • March 13th, 1533: Left Santa Cabrillo de la Cerbeza Blanco con Limon for Northern waters.
  • March 13th: Returned to Santa Cabrillo de la Cerbeza Blanco con Limon because Helga, the cook, couldn't remember if she turned off the stove at home or not.
  • March 13th: Left Santa Cabrillo de la Cerbeza Blanco con Limon for Northern waters.
  • March 13th: Returned to Santa Cabrillo de la Cerbeza, yadda yadda yadda because Helga forgot her other stupid suitcase.
  • March 13th: Left Santa Cabrillo blah blah blah for Northern waters.
  • March 14th: On an unscheduled return trip to Santa Cabrillo de la Whatever, Helga died of mysterious causes. We turned around and continued our trip North.

It went downhill from there.

I tend to ramble. Feel free to put me on ignore.

Just thought you'd want to know that Google has already indexed that; you're the first hit on "Santa Cabrillo de la Cerbeza Blanco"

Listen I know you are a "Salty Old Sea Dog" But don't try and tell me the sea slopes ...... If it did you would not need a boat for water skiing :-)

My dad had me believing that South was "downhill" and North was "uphill" because of the world globe I had in my room. Actually, he and his fishing buddies would all use those terms when deep sea fishing to indicate South/North. Weird. ;)

Guess a few of his buddies were in the Navy too....the uphill/downhill - north/south got bandied about more than once.

We used M-80's to recall divers in the Navy. We'd tape them to a large bolt or nut so they'd sink, light them and toss them into the water when we wanted the divers to surface. They were very effective...

oh gosh, this totally made me laugh...sorry you can't hear or anything but hey, we needed to get your attention and explosives seemed the best way...

Was wondering who St. Cabrillo was that he takes lemon in his beer . . .

"Down East" - prevailing winds in New England meant you were going downwind to Maine, upwind to Boston. Also "Down Cape" heading to the mainland (by land) from P-town on Cape Cod.

I was working on a complete logbook for this "voyage" that included places like "Santa Barbara de la Arroz y Maiz", "Monte Rey con Carne", "Santa Cruz del Hermoso Oleaje" and "Bahia San Francisco con Sal y Frijoles Rojas". The content was deteriorating too fast after the "crew" ran out of the elixir they picked up in Cabo San Lucas during the local festival called "Spring-o Break-o".

You may be surprised at the stuff I DON'T post here. :o

Yeah, Evan twisted his ankle at school in gym. When he did, as per him, he heard a loud pop and of course had the usual swelling. Well, Urgent Care doc said that it was fractured, but said we had to take him to an Orthopedic doc to make sure the growth plate was not affected....well, turns out it was also fractured. He got a cast yesterday and will have it for 4 weeks, then 2 weeks of no physical activities. Runs right through the last week of his baseball season. We are all bummed here at home for that....he was doing so well this season too!

Tough on the little guy, but fortunately they are quite resilient.

It is to me. I have it totally implanted in my brain that it is too. Even using the GPS, both handheld and in the car, I prefer north up instead of the direction you are heading.

morning friends ,HAppy Birthday JAWA hope you have a wonderful day!
Paris is home ..does happy dance
Its been interesting her body is trying to cope with the new dose of meds , she is kinda hyper and really really hungry .We are trying to give her a few really low keyed days , Im gonna walk her later but other than that no ruffing or excitement .She seems a little different in her personality , but shes been through alot and I think shes coming around slowly .

Funny how when you love something being able to see and hug them means alot .

Deb, I am glad to hear that Paris is at home, and doing well. Hope that was the last of the seizures that she will have.
