After mucking about with Spyder2 and not being able to calibrate my dual monitors properly, I have decided to get a new one. It seems as long as the one I want to edit on is the main monitor, I think I can put the calibration on it, but it wants to do them both the same, and that doesn't work. I think I can then manually adjust the other monitor. The thing is, I really want my best monitor as the 2nd one, so it does not have all the menus and task bars on it.

I have been looking around a bit, and it seems the Spyder3elite is supposed to be a good one and do the trick. Does anyone here use it, and/or is there other ones I should look at too. $186 plus shipping from B&H for the S3e.

Exactly what I'm doing ;-)a I may be able to do a quick test in the coming days, but won't be able to really use it as I'd like for a loooong time though :-(

Hey Deeds....you can come stay at my place....and I'll lug the camera around for you. I'd even be willing to bang off a few test shots to make sure it was fully capable! ;)

When you figure this whole mess out, I'd be interested to hear what your solution is. I have two monitors on this confuser that I need to calibrate, and I'm in the same quandary. I don't even know where to begin.

I've never calibrated a monitor before. The prints I got always looked exactly like what I was seeing on the ancient CRT monitor my previous computer had, so I wasn't too concerned before. But, now I can't get the color/contrast/brightness/etc to appear the same on both of these monitors at the same time. Also, I sometimes (not often, but enough to notice) see some funky banding in photos posted here on POTN when I view them on my "main" monitor that may or may not show on the secondary monitor, yet nobody ever mentions any banding issues when they comment in those threads...

It's got me feeling a bit confuzzled.

The car (can't say the 'L' word) is in getting tires on it. It should be ready in about an hour. In the meantime, they gave me a loaner to drive; it's a 2011 'L' word hybrid (basically a Prius with lipstick). I'm not wowed by the hybrid technology, at least in this application.

One unusual thing I noticed was that you can't rev the engine when it's in neutral. press the gas pedal to the floor, and the engine just idles. I don't want a car that you can't go vroom vroom with. The car is also claustrophobia-inducing. The center console is much higher than normal cars, and protrudes into the area between the driver and passenger. I'm not sure why that was necessary, but I'll be very happy to turn this thing back in and have the wide-open spaces of my own car back. The navigation system is pretty similar to what I have now, but the primary control is a joystick on the center console. It's very counter-intuitive to use, but kept me entertained while I waited for Lois who decided to go shopping.

The dealership did come through.....sort of. They're not charging me labor for the mounting and balancing of the tires, and they're knocking off 10% from the cost of the tires and alignment. They also filled my tank, so the complaining saved me about $150.00. Not bad. I probably could have gotten more, but they were actually pretty apologetic, and I wasn't in the mood to argue.

In fact, while I was typing this, they called and it's ready. See ya' later.

I'm not short. I'm concentrated awesome!

It is rare that a deal that beats all deals is on the up and up. I often spend a little more but I can't be bothered with bargain hunting too much. If I am ordering something rather than buying at a store, like I normally do, I tend to buy from one of the big reputable camera outlets like B&H. I usually do a search and look at one of the sites that lists all the sellers and prices. Usually most the listings are the same and then there are a few cheaper ones, then there are the very cheap obvious scams. I buy from one of the places that all have the same price. All the other ones always have a hitch.

I hope it is all good Mike.

This was on Amazon ... The seller had good ratings  But, yeah ... The good news is the camera works well, and it did come with a USA warranty card with a matching serial number, so I assume it's definitely US Market :)

BearLeeAlive wrote in post #11060289 (external link)
While I love to get a deal, I too prefer the security of a reputable store, and prefer local if the deal is even close.

I have seen lots of cameras sold just how Mike's was. It musta been on eBay or sumpin'.

Yep, me, too. I took a big chance on an unknown with the assumption that because they were selling through Amazon, and seemed to have very good ratings through them that everything was fully legit. Guess I'll also be sticking with B&H or Adorama, too.

Woolburr wrote in post #11060311 (external link)
BTW Mike...my comment is not a condemnation of your purchasing decision. Amazon is usually on the up and up....so it is rather surprising to hear of your experience. Hope your camera is flawless and it never becomes an issue.

Yep. I was a bit surprised, too! Nah, if it's anything like the 40D it'll conk out well after the warranty period.

I got the 40D back today and was quite impressed. I'd have never known it was in for service. The AF system on the 7D is going to take a bit of getting used to, though. It took me a while to discover how to change the point selection mode from auto to zone, manual or spot. I *really* like how the viewfinder shows where AI servo is tracking, though. Nice touch!

Glad that dealership is taking care of you Tom. Sounds like they are doing a decent job.

Anyone know anything about retro camera android (external link)?

Yeppers! I have the free version on my phone. It's a nice little app if you want to take some cell phone shots and make them look retro. As a matter of fact, these two shots in the post 2 weeks ago was taken with retro camera: https://photography-on-the.net …p=10940068&postcount=3606

Did you get an Android phone??

There is an app for the iPhone that a friend of mine has....you take a picture of yourself or someone and it makes it into a yearbook photo from the 70s or 80s....forget the name of it though.

Evening Crissa. :D

Heh... about the focus on the video: All manual. ;) I'm guessing it was around f/2.8 I can't really remember for certain. Exif data isn't tied to movie files like it is to JPG and CR2 files.

The 6400 and H (12800) ISO settings are a nice stretch, btw. And, a shocking +/- 5ev (why would you need to adjust exposure 5 stops?) even at 12800 it comes out reasonably well.
