I've been a big fan of Dom Cruz's (external link) Cinema set on Flickr. I've finally decided to mimic the look in LR3 after digging it for so long. How did I do?

Things I did:
-Reduced saturation
-Bump Contrast
-Shifted WB towards yellow
-Added a green tinge
-Yellow hint to highlights
-Blue tint to shadows
-135L

Any input as to how to make it more cinematic?

Here's another. Does anybody know how to improve the look?

Well, you can add the letterbox border that he's added to force the cinema look a bit more, and maybe add a small amount of grain?

Tint colors on the slider are green or magenta.

Take a look at this video:

http://www.redgiantsoftware.com/videos/redgianttv/item/23/# (external link)

to get a sense of how a pro visualizes and produces the cinematic "look" that you are attempting to emulate (ignore the first minute or two of promotion). While Maschwitz uses a particular tool in After Effects to get the look, the same generic tools are available to manipulate color in LR and PS.

I don't know about a letter box -- you can use the Stroke Border in the Print module to put a black frame around the shot then use the Print to File function to create a jpeg, but I don't see the stroke border as able to create the "letter box look". But, a plugin such as mogrify that adds borders might be customizable to give the right dimensions for the borders.

Thanks for the video Kirk, it was more than helpful. Interesting concept on complementary colors and such.

Cool - also, go to Red Giant's site and browse the video tutorials for a plug in called "Colorista II" - there are several more by Stu maschwitz that cover similar kinds of looks and concepts for getting them.

I think you nailed it in the first picture.

A quick youtube searched found this:

May not be exactly what you want, but every little bit helps
