and according to the news last night we've been out of the recession since last year.

Riiiiiight  What's worse than the price hike is that once the price goes up it seldom comes back down. Even once the Yen drops against the USD I'm sure Canon will be happy to keep prices right where they are.

Wow that's ridiculous. Now you're making me want to switch, and I'm not even interested in a cropper :D Wish you didn't have to register to download the fullsize images though.

Honestly, if APS-C technology has come this far, imagine what the D700 replacement will bring and where FF tech is headed. A usable 6400 now on a cropper = insanely high usable ISOs on an affordable FF body in the near future.

You know the saying. If its too good to be true then it probably isnt. Thats the feeling i got right after i said wow. So far though its a great jump out of the gate.

It'll be interesting to see how real-world results at 3200+ compare to the 5D2.

I am thinking of jumping ship to Nikon now. after reviewing through what canon has done I can see that Canon more of a Business focus company while Nikon is more Photographer driven company.
future is brighter at nikon side

Canon's is >$1400 and has been out for a while. Maybe street price will drop on Nikon's over time, but both are still bloody expensive.

And if Canon Mk2s it its going to easily be $2000...The Nikon is likely a bit better optically because it uses newer coatings and lens technologies

Theres a lot of reasons why, but the fact Nikon's stuff is "more expensive" tends to be that its newer
