Can someone explain to me the rage on POTN toward the 60D? It is NOT a bad camera...I must be missing something here...
The 60D underwhelmed many people when it was accounced. That's because it is a repositioning of the xxD line, not a straight upgrade over 50D. I think that sentiment was starting to wear away a bit, at least for me. But now that Nikon drops the D7000 in at only $100 more, and it looks like what many hoped the 60D might be, those same old underwhelmed by Canon feelings are coming right back up I think.
The reality, I think, is that the 7D is still a better camera than the D7000. But is it worth the $300 or so price difference? D7000 looks to easily be $100 better than 60D, real world performance pending, of course. Nikon seems to have placed a camera in between Canon's mid level/Prosumer grades, closer to prosumer 7D in performance but closer to mid-level 60D in price. If you are invested in glass and accessories that price difference is likely not significant enough to make you jump brands, but as somone else posted, if you were just looking to buy your first DSLR, or looking to upgrade from entry level with minimal lenses, it would be very hard not to make the D7000 your first choice.
It will be interesting to read early reviews, though expectations should be that all Canon and Nikon offerings will perform well, and then see what pricing does. I can certainly see Canon dropping both the 60D and 7D prices a little more quickly and more dramatically than they might have been planning to.
