Any of you guys tried Maui Jim sunglasses? I tried some on and now I'm gonna buy some. They are absolutely awesome, especially for taking the glare off water. Here's the website: Maui Jim (external link)

People I know that wear em swear by them, and now I know why... Just curious what opinions you guys might have of the optics involved.... It's like running auto-curves for your eyeballs..

They look pretty nice, but what will a pair set you back?

Maui Jim are very very expensive pairs of sunglasses. At least $250+ cdn. Their lenses are perfect though, my friend absolutely loves them. I wear glasses so there's no point for me to buy them, then replace the lenses with prescription. I don't even know if they have prescription Maui Jim lenses.

Anyway, another company with awesome "optics" is Revo. I personally like their style better.

I've been wearing MJ's for many years. They are expensive, no matter where you purchase them, but they are worth every penny. The question you have to ask yourself when considering buying pair of sunglasses is, "How much are my eyes worth?" A couple of hundred bucks is cheap.

A co-worker has a pair and has only good things to say about them. Others I've talked to say they are also great. I wear glasses so none for me even though I'm wearing sunglasses in my avatar.

I'm into my Oakley polarized Crosshair's right now. They're most excellent.

Do any of you have trouble reading some of the instruments in your car when wearing polorized sunglasses? I was recently told that pilots don't wear them for that reason.

Some LED displays sort of blank out with polorized lenses. It is hard to see the clock on the radio as well as the display on my cel phone. Small price to pay for the added benifits of quality sunglasses.

I can't read my phone screen or watch if they are rotated 90 degrees. At first i thought my phone was off until I picked it up and it faded into view. Very odd, but kinda cool :)

If you want to buy glasses with great optics look at Costa Del Mar. I own a pair in addition to Revos that cost twice as much. Most of the well known fishing guides (myself included) in Fl. wear these while fishing due to their performance as well as their durability. They also come with a lifetime warranty, no ? asked.

The majority of times pilots spot air traffic is by catching a flash of glare from the other aircraft. If you are wearing polarized sunglasses then you reduce the chance of spotting such traffic.

I'm going to get some, regardless of the price, not just for the polarizing, but also for the way that it enhances color and contrast. They are pretty amazing in that regard...
