The 14L II wouldn't need to exist if Canon could only make sharper corners with ultra-wide zooms (e.g. 16-35L has soft corners). Nikon can do it, why can't Canon?

Also. ZE 21. Designing and making lenses wider than 24 that are sharp corner to corner is fairly hard. They always have problems in some regard.

What do you shoot that needs critically sharp corners? Just curious.

Everything I shoot deserves to have corners that are at least reasonably sharp. The falloff in quality at the corners is really astonishing - like a total blur, really.

A lot of what you (from looking at your nice web site) and others shoot is shallow DOF and the corners are out of focus anyway ... not saying sharp corners isn't sometimes necessary and desireable, just that the problem is in many cases rather moot and exaggerated. :)

My experience is that most pictures really wouldn't be much better, and the average viewer certainly wouldn't notice, if the corners were sharper.

But sure, I'd also rather have the choice of sharpness or blur than have to accept unsharp.
