While in Thailand played with some sunset shots. Shot with 50D and bare 430EX off camera.

Here is one I setup and then had my daughter push the button.

#1 is spot on. To me light looks too harsh on #3. Perhaps a softbox?

Nice job. The first is definitely the winner, but I like them all. 2 looks like the flash was on-camera (or very close to it) based on the catchlight. 3 could have been better with diffused light, but it's not like you can pack a full light setup while on a family vacation and I don't think the lighting is too harsh here. Maybe next time try posing them so one doesn't cast a shadow on to the other.

Great job overall. #1 is very well done. #2 is a bit underexposed. Yes #3 would have been nicer with diffused light but it's not like you carry the entire setup on a family vacation. I'm sure you'll cherish these shots years to come. :)

Straightening...lol. Every time I straighten the horizon, I hang the picture crooked.

agree here. #1 could be edited a little to soften up that harshness and make it a bit more worth keeping!

Thanks all yeah it was fun to shoot these and I so wish I could have brought more equipment but it is hard enough to get your family to allow you to bring one flash and then pose for five minutes while you try and shoot them. They were pretty good sports overall though.
